How are you sharing messages with your team?

The Challenge

Think about how often you hear the feedback that communication is lacking in your organization. Consider how often, in how much detail, and in how many ways you tend to communicate important information to your team. Often as a leader, you hear things many times, in many venues, but then you communicate those same things to staff only once in one way.

Why do this?

Although communication issues are universal in every organization and likely will never totally go away, it is important that you take responsibility for your role as a communicator of organizational priorities. Be purposeful in what you communicate, how, and how often.

This act is part of your long-term effort to successfully lead others through effective communication of vision and strategic priorities.

What’s next?

The next time there is important news to share, make sure you communicate it to your staff at least three times and in at least two ways (e.g., team meeting and email).
