How can constructive feedback help you?

The Challenge

Schedule a conversation with someone on your team or in your department who relies on output from you in order to do their own work (for example, information you must provide before they can move on to the next step in a project). Ask them: Am I giving you what you need in a timely manner? Would you consider it high quality? What changes could I make that would be most helpful to you?

Why do this?

Receiving feedback is critically important to your development as a leader. When you demonstrate a commitment to listening to feedback by actively seeking it out, people are more likely to offer you helpful input.

This act is part of your long-term effort to lead others effectively by understanding how your actions are experienced and perceived.

What’s next?

Look for opportunities to provide constructive feedback to your team members.
