How actively do you support your staff's professional development?

The Challenge

Identify at least three development activities that you and/or your organization have provided to your staff in the past six months. Were they meaningful opportunities that helped staff develop in the areas they needed and wanted? How do you the measure success of these programs?

Why do this?

Research by Gallup, Inc. indicates that only 32% of today's workforce are fully engaged in their jobs. Providing meaningful career development activities will improve staff loyalty and engagement.

Staff satisfaction and retention increases when staff see evidence that you are committed to their professional growth.

What’s next?

Identify one person on your team who has several years of experience in their current position. Work with them to create a custom professional development activity that will help them develop new skills or enhance existing ones. Taking the time to understand each person's professional development needs will improve your ability to tailor development activities.
