How can you encourage team members to use and further develop their strengths?

The Challenge

Think about a recent time that someone on your team used one of their particular strengths to obtain a positive result. Go to that person, tell them what you noticed, and thank them for doing what they did.

Why do this?

Develop others by encouraging them to build on their strengths. Development is often focused on improving areas of weakness. However, encouraging people to continually improve what they are already doing right is also a highly successful strategy.

This act is part of your long-term effort to develop others by providing ongoing, positive feedback.

What’s next?

Make it a habit to acknowledge and encourage the positive behaviors of your team members.
