How can you improve your pitches?

The Challenge

The next time you have a new idea you'd like to present to your boss, ask a trusted friend or colleague to listen to your pitch first. Afterwards, ask them what questions they have about your idea. Was it clear what the purpose of the idea is, how you would implement it, and how it would help the organization?

Why do this?

It's exciting when you come up with an idea to improve a process or product. But for your idea to be received well, it's important to present it to the right people in the right way. (By the way, if you noticed that this challenge is similar to another one you've done, you're right. It is! We developed a series dedicated to pitching your ideas, and this challenge is part of that series.)

Being known as a thorough planner--someone who not only has good ideas, but knows how to implement them properly--will increase the amount of influence you have in your organization. People will be more willing to listen to your ideas and dedicate resources toward them.

What’s next?

Incorporate your answers to whatever questions they ask into your pitch, and practice it again.
