How can you improve your team's resiliency?

The Challenge

Identify the most recent change(s) that your team has faced. Rank your team's response on a scale from 1 to 5. "1" means that individual team members actively resisted the change and did not work together to address it. "3" describes a more open, team-oriented response that focused on "What does this mean for us?". "5" describes a collaborative team response focused on actively assessing and implementing needed changes.

Why do this?

A skilled team leader inspires and fosters team commitment, pride, and trust. A strong team is collaborative and motivated to accomplish group goals.

All teams face challenges. An effective leader prepares their team to face those challenges with confidence. She/he develops clear expectations about what the team needs to accomplish and how each person's role contributes to the big picture. She/he strengthens the team's ability to improvise when circumstances change and supports and encourages the team when challenges arise. After a challenge has been met, a skilled team leader debriefs with the team to identify successes and areas that need a stronger response the next time.

What’s next?

If your team scored a "5" on today's challenge, congratulations on having developed a strong and effective team! If your team scored less than a "5", identify one action you could take over the next month that would increase your team's resiliency by one point.
