How can you squeeze more time into your day?

The Challenge

Use a simple spreadsheet to track how you spend every moment of your time for an entire week. Pay attention to how long it takes you to shift between tasks at work, how long you spend socializing over coffee, how long you spend commuting, and how much time you spend with family and friends.

Why do this?

Know how you spend your time so that you can decide if you are spending it wisely.

Being conscious of how you spend your time allows you to gain increased control over your own happiness. It allows you to budget your time so that you are able to complete the things you have to do, with enough time left over to enjoy the things that bring you pleasure.

What’s next?

Examine the time log you created to identify any time sinks (that is, activities that you judge to be an inefficient use of time). Develop strategies to eliminate the time sinks one at a time.
