How do you develop new ideas?

The Challenge

What is the most frustrating part of your job? Take 20 minutes to brainstorm ways that this aspect of your work could be improved. Write down whatever comes to your mind, whether or not the answer seems realistic.

Why do this?

It's exciting when you come up with an idea to improve a process or product. But for your idea to be received well, it's important to present it to the right people in the right way. (By the way, if you noticed that this challenge is similar to another one you've done, you're right. It is! We developed a series dedicated to pitching your ideas, and this challenge is part of that series.)

Being known as a thorough planner--someone who not only has good ideas, but knows how to implement them properly--will increase the amount of influence you have in your organization. People will be more willing to listen to your ideas and dedicate resources toward them.

What’s next?

Once you've finished brainstorming, look back over your list and circle the two ideas that have the most potential to make a positive change.
