How does an organization's mission motivate you to help?

The Challenge

When was the last time you reviewed the mission statement for an organization where you volunteer your time? Find that mission statement and take just a few minutes to consider how that statement influences how you feel about your volunteer work with the organization.

Why do this?

Mission statements, especially those for non-profit or community organizations, should inspire all the people who are involved with the organization. A strong mission statement tells a clear story, and helps to promote engagement with the organization.

The words an organization uses to describe its mission drives commitment from all stakeholders, and ensures that the resources, volunteers, and activities of that organization are well aligned.

What’s next?

Find a way to help an organization meet its mission in a practical way. Donate goods, or volunteer your time to help an organization whose mission aligns with your interests.
