How good are you at finding solutions to nagging problems?

The Challenge

Recall the last time you identified a significant problem with an existing process or service and spent time actively trying to solve it. Describe how you identified and defined the problem and how you generated possible solutions. How successful were your efforts? If you did not fully solve the problem, can you identify any further action you could have taken to move closer to a solution?

Why do this?

Persons with entrepreneurial skills contribute to organizational success by identifying opportunities to improve processes or services.

Bill Gates believes that "a lousy process will consume ten times as many hours as the work itself requires." Entrepreneurs are quick to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies that slow down work, and then seek out ways to improve these systems. Their questioning mindset, critical thinking skills, experimentation, and creativity make them significant contributors to process improvement.

What’s next?

Identify another process that negatively impacts your work or the work of your team. Define the problem and generate possible solutions. Include other people in your thinking and generation of ideas.
