How might you reconsider?
The Challenge
For the next 7 days, notice when you express the same opinion over and over, or have the same thought again and again, or get stuck in a thinking tornado. Interrupt yourself when this happens, pause, and ask yourself: "How might I reconsider this? How might I take another point of view? How might I see this differently?"
Why do this?
It's difficult to be creative or to innovate when you are stuck. Sometimes, you may not even realize you are stuck. This challenge will help you open your mind to more creative solutions by breaking apart two major barriers: first, noticing when you are stuck in your view, and then, working to find another view.
When you can find and explore other viewpoints, you will develop new insights into situations and people, and that will help you design innovative services, programs and processes in your work and in your life.
What’s next?
Test this challenge in a brief moment only testing two of your senses: sight and hearing. Walk outside. Notice: what's the first thing you see? The first thing you hear? Are you looking down? If so, look up. Are you moving forward? Stop, stand still and look around. Are you standing up? Sit. Yes, on the ground if you can. Listen. What do you hear? Listen harder. Notice the varied things you notice when you make that effort.
