How well do you work with your remote/virtual employees?

The Challenge

Make a list of all the things that you value about one of your virtual employees. Consider their contributions to work, their attitude, their openness to new ideas or contributions to innovative thinking, and their willingness to step up when needed. Resist the urge to dwell on all the challenges you may have with them being remote; focus on the positive.

Why do this?

Working with remote or virtual employees can often be seen as a challenge, when in fact it's a common situation in today's workplace. Every person on your team contributes value and matters to the success of your overall group--you just need to identify and remember that value when logistics get complicated!

Your ability to successfully navigate employees in various work situations--and to support employees' personal life balance and goals--contributes to your overall success as a leader and a manager. Being flexible and appreciating the value of having virtual employees can often lead to better recruiting, better productivity, and the ability to manage a diverse workforce.

What’s next?

Repeat this challenge, but with a focus on protecting your data at work. This might include reviewing your company's tech policies and procedures to make sure you are in compliance.
