What does it mean to be a catalyst for change?

The Challenge

Write down seven or eight words that you think of when someone says "catalyst." Do any of these words describe you? Identify two to three new ways that you could intentionally work as a catalyst for change within your team and the organization as a whole.

Why do this?

Identify the behaviors you need in order to lead change. Change does not happen on its own--it needs a driver. This is one of the key functions of leadership.

This act is part of your long-term effort to translate vision into action by leading change effectively.

What’s next?

Observe successful catalysts in your organization. What are the qualities that make them so effective in leading change? How do these qualities match up with your list? Are there any qualities that you could emulate?
