Which skills lead to success on your team?

The Challenge

Think about the best performer on your team. What makes that person the best? Think about the average performers on your team. Are they missing the attributes/skills that your best performer has?

Why do this?

Identify the skills and expertise team members need. For both future hiring and development of current staff, it is important to have a clear understanding of the talents/strengths that are necessary to excel on your team.

This act is part of your long-term effort to manage and develop your human capital effectively.

What’s next?

Consider the possibility that at least some of your average performers are average because you may not be tapping into their talents. Have one-on-one conversations with these staff to determine if their performance can be improved by focusing more on their strengths.
