What do you know about your organization's finances?

The Challenge

Even if you are not directly involved in your workplace's monetary management, identify any ways that you impact your company's finances. Take some time to investigate how your daily decisions and priorities may affect the bottom line.

Why do this?

Know the part that you play in your organization's financial health. Do you make or recommend any purchases for the organization? Are you careful with the way you use supplies and with business expenses? Do you plan your travel in the most economical way possible?

The economic viability of your workplace is important to your own financial health. Taking an interest will also help to give you a better picture of how you can help, even in small ways, to keep the company or association financially sustainable.

What’s next?

Read your workplace's public financial documents and, if possible, have a conversation with someone involved with its financial management about general trends and company goals. Any knowledge you gain will be useful for you in seeing the big picture.
